Department Overview

The Planning and Zoning Department administers the Village's Comprehensive Plan ordinance (adopted by the Town in 2004), the zoning and land development regulations ordinances, general code enforcement, and assists in the preparation of various reports and plans related to the current and future uses of land in the Village of Richfield.

This department serves as the professional and technical Staff for the Village Plan Commission, which is an advisory body to Village Board. The Planning and Zoning Department also serves as the professional and technical staff for the Village's Board of Zoning Appeals, Architectural Review Board, and the Village Board. Applications and requests to be placed on any agenda Board/Commission agenda must be submitted to the Planning Department at least 25 days before the date of the scheduled meeting.


Village Staff is dedicated to managing development in an efficient, effective, and equitable manner. It is the goal of this department to provide clear, accurate, and timely information to the public concerning planning and development activities within the village.


The office works collaboratively with the Department of Building Inspections, Public Works, and Parks to help operate Village Hall as a fully-functional citizen service hub.
